CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA–The Charlottesville Cardinals wheelchair basketball team will kick off its 38th season this Sunday (10/8/17) against the Sportable Richmond Rimriders in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Walton Middle School (4217 Red Hill Road, Charlottesville). The second game will begin around 2:30 p.m. The games are open to the public and are free admission.
This season the Cardinals will be competing in Division II of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association.
The team’s roster for 2017-18 consists of veterans Jacob Tyree, Jeremy Smith, Eddie Wimbish, Joey Leavitt, Gino Wilson, Andrea Woodson-Smith, Tom Vandever, Arthur Tracy, Brandon Rush, and Gerald Barnes. Joining the squad this season is Marcus Johnson who previously played with Air Capital of Washington, DC.
The Cardinals also help sponsor the Harrisonburg, VA Cardinals which is competing in Division III of the National Wheelchair Basketball Association this season. Cardinals veteran Penney Dodson is rostered with the Harrisonburg Cardinals this year.
