After finishing this season ranked 14th in the country, the Cardinals have been continuing their weekly workouts at the Herman Key, Jr. Recreation Center. We’ve been pleased to welcome Chris Robinson back to the fold after his stint with the professional team in Strasbourg, France! We’ve also been pleased to have Tommie Gray join our workouts recently—Tommie was a teammate of Chris’ in France and is an alum of the University of Pennsylvania at Edinboro.
The team has been very busy this spring doing wheelchair basketball demonstrations at Virginia State University, James Madison University, the University of Virginia, and at Piedmont Virginia Community College. All of the students have been very enthusiastic and engaged and we’ve had great fun teaching our sport to them. We’re also very happy to have Rick Shifflett back in action after his surgeries earlier this year! We’ve missed him!
Charlottesville has a new internet “TV station” called Earless Rabbit, and they have graciously posted a truncated version of our documentary “Roll With It”. You know what “they” say…”any publicity is good publicity!” Earless Rabbit has cut our 32 minute film down to 11 and a half minutes—sort of a Readers’ Digest version. So for you speed readers you can check it out at http://www.earlessrabbit.com/gold/roll-with-it/.
Starting in late June the Cardinals will also be participating in the six-week CarFax summer tournament in Richmond. It’s a very successful program targeted toward inner city youths and the CarFax sponsors are including a weekly wheelchair basketball game as part of the competition. Last year our own Brandon Rush was named MVP for the tournament!
Thanks for all of your support and encouragement and we hope to see you soon!
