Bay City Takes 1st Place at Herman Key, Jr. Memorial Holiday Tournament; Charlottesville Finishes Third

Dec 3, 2012

CHARLOTTESVILLE–Despite a spirited challenge from a scrappy Richmond Rimriders squad, the Bay City Thunder notched their fifth win of the Herman Key, Jr. Memorial Holiday Tournament on Sunday morning and claimed the tournament championship.

After trailing most of the game the Thunder put together an extended run late in the game to put away Richmond 59-44 and to finish the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record.

In Sunday’s match for 2nd place the Shepherd Stealers steamrolled the Charlottesville Cardinals 81-37 in a game where the Cardinals’ woeful shooting was devastatingly contrasted by the hot-shooting Shepherd team who ended the tournament with a 4-1 record.  The loss dropped the Cardinals to a third place finish with a 3-2 record.

Bay City placed three players on the All-Tournament team–Lincoln Jamison, Tommie Grey, and MVP selection Trevon Jenifer.   Six other players were also named to the All-Tournament squad:  Chris Robinson (Charlottesville), Dwayne Veney (Richmond), Brent Garlic (Shepherd), Jeremy Smith (Charlotte), Gavin Cloy (Shepherd), and Mike Looney (Charlottesville).

The Cardinals are now 5-4 in NWBA Championship play, and 7-5 overall this season.  Charlottesville will travel to the Richmond Rimriders Holiday Tournament next weekend in Ft. Lee, Virginia (Petersburg, VA).
