Cardinals Notch Two Wins

CHARLOTTESVILLE–The Charlottesville Cardinals notched two wins this afternoon, downing the NRH Ambassadors 52-23 and the Richmond Rimriders 70-55.

In the third game of the afternoon the Rimriders knocked off the Ambassadors 44-41.

The Cardinals jumped out quickly against the NRH Ambassadors, claiming a 24-11 halftime margin before going on to a 52-23 victory.  The Cardinals’ Mike Looney led all scorers with 26 points, while Brandon Rush added 12 and Tom Vandever chipped in 10.

Against the Richmond Rimriders the Cardinals took control late in the first half and established a 38-25 halftime lead.  The Rimriders remained scrappy throughout the second half but never managed to close the gap as Charlottesville claimed a 70-55 win.  The Cardinals’ Mike Looney again led all scorers with 24 points, followed by Brandon Rush and Tom Vandever with 18 each.  Dwayne Veney led Richmond with 14 points.

With the victories 15th-ranked Charlottesville is now 15-10 on the season and will square off against NRH on Sunday (2/10) in a doubleheader beginning at 8:30 a.m. at Carver Recreation Center.
