LOUISVILLE–After sustaining several disappointing losses earlier in the week at the NWBA national championship tournament, the Charlottesville Cardinals wheelchair basketball team notched a solid win in their last game of the season, 59-37 over the Courage Center (Minnesota) Rollin’ Timberwolves.
After an inconsistent first half marked by a number of Cardinals’ turnovers, Charlottesville entered the halftime break tied 25-all.
In the second half, however, the Cardinals came out aggressively in the opening minutes of the period to claim a 34-28 advantage and never relinquished the lead. The Charlottesville defense held the Timberwolves’ offense to 12 points in the second half.
Charlottesville’s Chris Robinson led all scorers with 17 points, followed by Tom Vandever with 14, and Brandon Rush and Mike Looney with 10 each. The Timberwolves’ Jeff Gustafson led Minnesota scorers with 13 points.
The Cardinals head back to Charlottesville on Sunday.
