New York Rollin’ Knicks Dominate Herman Key, Jr. Memorial Holiday Tournament

CHARLOTTESVILLE–Sparked by Canadian national team stars Patrick Anderson and David Eng, the New York Rollin’ Knicks dominated competition at the weather-shortened Herman Key, Jr. Memorial Holiday tournament this weekend.

With a looming ice and snow storm due early Sunday morning the tournament schedule was curtailed and concluded Saturday night.

The Knicks easily defeated the host Charlottesville Cardinals in the opening game of the tournament on Friday night and then overwhelmed the Atlanta Shepherd Stealers and the Pennsylvania Keystone Royals in successive games in the “A” Pool competition on Saturday to complete their round-robin play in the Championship Division side of the event.  The Knicks completed their sweep by again steamrolling the Cardinals in their final game Saturday afternoon.

In the Division 3 “B” Pool portion of the tournament the Philadelphia Magee Spokesmen went 4-0 in the round-robin rounds, beating the Richmond Rimriders and the Washington, DC NRH Ambassadors twice in a series of very close games.  But the Spokesmen stumbled in the final playoff game and fell to an aggressive NRH squad Saturday night to finish the tournament with a 4-1 record, while NRH claimed the “B” Pool trophy.

The Cardinals finished the weekend with a 2-3 record after falling to the Shepherd squad on Saturday and then beating the Keystone team twice.  Keystone beat Shepherd on Friday but lost to them on Saturday to finish the tournament 1-4.  Shepherd finished with a 2-2 mark.
