CHARLOTTESVILLE–The Charlottesville Cardinals wheelchair basketball team will be hosting the 12th annual Herman Key, Jr. Memorial Holiday Tournament this weekend, Friday (11/30) through Sunday (12/2) in Charlottesville.
In addition to the 14th-ranked Cardinals, the six-team tournament field will include the 8th-ranked Shepherd Stealers (Atlanta), the 16th-ranked Charlotte Rollin’ Bobcats (NC), the Bay City Thunder (Erie, PA), the Maryland Ravens (Baltimore, MD), and the Richmond Rimriders (VA).
The Cardinals defeated both Shepherd and Charlotte earlier this season so both teams will be looking for revenge. Shepherd has won the Charlottesville tournament the past two years.
The tournament will feature 15 games over three days of competiton. All teams will play five games in a round-robin format.
The Cardinals will open the tournament on Friday night against Richmond at 6:30 p.m. at the Covenant Church gym (1025 Rio Road). Games will continue on Saturday at Covenant and also at Burley Middle School (901 Rose Hill Drive). Sunday games are at Burley.
On Saturday and Sunday the Cardinals will play at Burley, facing Maryland at 10:30 a.m., Bay City at 1:00 p.m., and Charlotte at 4:00 p.m. The Cardinals will face off against Shepherd on Sunday morning at 10:00 a.m.
