CHARLOTTESVILLE–After taking a couple of weeks of relaxation after the official end of the 2013-14 season in early April,
the 16th-ranked Charlottesville Cardinals quickly found their schedule filled with a variety of community events and workouts.
After returning from the NWBA national championships in Louisville, Kentucky, the Cardinals were honored to receive a proclamation from the Charlottesville City Council commending the team members for their continuing dedication “to their mission of eliminating attitudinal barriers towards people with disabilities by energetically demonstrating their ‘abilities’ rather than ‘disabilities’ on the basketball court.”
In May the Cardinals performed exhibitions at both Piedmont Virginia Community College and at the University of Virginia, working with the students at both schools in demonstrating the sport of wheelchair basketball. Several more community exhibitions are scheduled for the summer.
The team has renewed its practice sessions at Carver Recreation Center and is looking forward to next season!
